In January of 2003 The First Tee at Fairchild Wheeler was formed by a partnership of The First Tee of Metropolitan New York and The First Tee of Connecticut in an effort to bring the game of golf to thousands of young people from the schools, churches, and community groups in Bridgeport, Norwalk, Stratford, and other cities throughout Fairfield County. Students participate in a seven week program that consists of driving range and classroom instruction from PGA Professionals. Along with their first exposure to the fundamentals of golf, students also learned about The First Tee’s “Nine Core Values” that are associated with the game and which The First Tee includes as part of its formal junior golf instruction program. <more info>
US Sports Camps is proud to offer a junior day golf camp at D. Fairchild Wheeler Golf Course in Bridgeport, CT. This facility offers two eighteen hole courses. The Red Course is more open than the Black Course where tee shots are more demanding. The fairways on both courses are generous, and the greens are exceptional. The terrain ranges from flat to hilly with creeks flowing throughout the entire layout.
These camps are designed for boys and girls between the ages of 9-17. The Teaching Staff is on hand to provide campers with top quality instruction each day. At NIKE Junior Golf Camps we accommodate all skill levels; the junior player just discovering the game to the high school player trying to move up on the team. The camps run Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Under the watchful eye of the instructional staff, every morning for three hours, the campers practice all aspects of their games- putting, chipping, bunker play and full-swing. Morning instruction is followed by lunch and then 9-holes with on-course instruction. The camp has a low camper per instructor ratio of approximately 6:1.
